Produced in small batches and released year on year, this exceptionally rare and ever-changing dram draws its inspiration from Islay’s Traigh Bhan beach, known locally as the Singing Sands. For the third release in this exclusive 19 year old series, slight changes to cask selection mean this bottling has evolved into a spicier dram. An impossibly balanced flavour profile gives rise to delicate notes of zesty lime and walnuts alongside bolder flavours of cayenne pepper and aniseed.

EXPERT REVIEW

Appearance: Rose Gold

Aroma: In this whisky, faint waves of scented woodsmoke mingle with sea spray and pine resin. Wisps of aniseed toffee and sweet lilies follow on the breeze while fresh citrus zest laps over notes of cayenne pepper. With a splash of water, waxy notes and charcoal flow into droplets of classic Sherry and linseed oil.

Taste: A rush of rich, sappy textures is followed moments later by classic sweet smokiness. Tarry rope and treacle toffee plunge the palate into a second wave of soot and aniseed twists. Smoke bobs on the horizon, while smoked brown sugar, walnuts and spices gently dissolve away.

Enjoy neat, with a little water or 2-3 large rocks of ice.

Islay, Scotland. Founded in 1815, the Ardbeg distillery is revered by connoisseurs around the world as the peatiest, smokiest and most complex of all the Islay malts, while being renowned for its delicious sweetness, a phenomenon known as “the peaty paradox”. Regarded today as the “Ultimate Islay Malt”, Ardbeg is a distinctive whisky with a compelling history. During the 1980s and 1990s, Ardbeg suffered from an uncertain future and was purchased by The Glenmorangie Company in 1997. Since then, the distillery has risen like a phoenix and today Ardbeg is well established as a niche, cult malt, with a passionate following.
