Product Detail

Bursting with sweetness, spice and explosively smoky notes, this rare single malt is a smouldering celebration of Ardbeg’s signature tastes. Distilled in 2002, it was laid down in a second-fill American oak bourbon cask, hand-selected to impart a gentle sweetness to the smoky, balanced spirit. But as it aged, this cask’s bold smokiness stood out to Dr Bill Lumsden. Intrigued by its intensity, he set Cask No. 3381 aside for an especially long maturation. More than 18 years later, his vision is rewarded in an outstanding single malt. Simmering with smoke, tar and spice, this Ardbeg packs a punch.

TASTING NOTES

Appearance: Pale Straw

Aroma: Robust and perfumed. Hints of leather and treacle toffee unite with smoked root vegetables, simmering coffee and a trace of fennel. A splash of water reveals flinty notes and a suggestion of smoked lime.

Taste: Explosive on the palate, as tar and aniseed burst forth with leather and smoke. Then comes the sweetness of malted barley and a hint of fragrant woodsmoke.

PERFECT SERVE

Enjoy neat, with a little water or 2-3 large rocks of ice.

ORIGIN

Islay, Scotland. Founded in 1815, the Ardbeg distillery is revered by connoisseurs around the world as the peatiest, smokiest and most complex of all the Islay malts, while being renowned for its delicious sweetness, a phenomenon known as “the peaty paradox”. Regarded today as the “Ultimate Islay Malt”, Ardbeg is a distinctive whisky with a compelling history. During the 1980s and 1990s, Ardbeg suffered from an uncertain future and was purchased by The Glenmorangie Company in 1997. Since then, the distillery has risen like a phoenix and today Ardbeg is well established as a niche, cult malt, with a passionate following.
